Key Reminder Buzzer does not Sound

DESCRIPTION

The key reminder warning buzzer sounds when the driver side door is opened while the ignition switch is in the LOCK or ACC position. The key reminder warning buzzer is activated when the main body ECU sends a key switch signal and driver side courtesy light switch signal to the combination meter.

HINT:

Since the key reminder warning system has functions that use CAN communication, first confirm that there is no malfunction in the communication system by inspecting the CAN communication functions in accordance with the "How to Proceed with Troubleshooting" procedures. Then, conduct the following inspection procedure.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

CHECK FRONT DOOR COURTESY LIGHT SWITCH LH

(a) Open the driver door and check that the open door indicator on the combination meter comes on.

OK:

Open door indicator comes on.

OK

2.

CHECK UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH

(a) Check that the security indicator on the accessory meter turns off, when the key is inserts into the ignition key cylinder.

OK:

Security indicator light turns off.

HINT:

When the security indicator turns off, the transponder key ECU has detected the unlock warning switch signal.

OK

3.

READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (KEY UNLOCK WARNING SW)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Data List/

(e) According to the display on the Techstream, read on the Data List.

HINT:

The unlock warning switch is confirmed to be functioning normally, and therefore if the result is NG, the problem is in the harness between the unlock warning switch and the main body ECU.

4.

INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (BUZZER OPERATION)

(a) Raise the vehicle with a lift, until the tires are off the ground.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and open any door.

(c) Rotate the wheel at a speed of 5 km/h (3.1 mph) or more.

(d) Check that the door ajar driving warning buzzer sounds to inform that the door is ajar while the vehicle is moving.

OK:

Combination meter buzzer sounds.

HINT:

The key reminder warning system sounds the buzzer which is built into the combination meter, for key reminder warnings. This buzzer is also used for the door ajar driving warning system. Therefore, check the operation of the combination meter buzzer by checking if the buzzer sounds to inform that the door is ajar while the vehicle is moving.
